I know that this can sound snobby but I have to say I love champagne, possibly even more than some shoes! So you know that is real love!
I had the chance to go to the champagne bar at St Pancras station in London and I grabbed it with both hands. Now I have to admit I did know about the bar but I had not been to it before, shock horror considering I am such an addict. It stretches along as far as the eye can see, however when you get up the stairs and you approach the shiny glass cabinet with all the champagne in, you do a little weak at the knees and don’t really take in the size of the place. They have all the big names such as Dom Perignon and Krug, but also some good middle range champagnes for those who do not carry around £6,500 in your back pocket in these “credit crunch” times.
After settling down with a bottle of Mumm Cordon Rouge NV, not all to myself I hasten to add, and without the oysters which were also on offer, it was possible to take in the surroundings. One by one the trains destined for Paris left, unfortunately not taking me with them, as champagne in Paris would be pretty much perfect! People came and went quickly sipping a glass before boarding their trains or staying and enjoying a night with a difference.
I have to say that whether you live in London or are just visiting, whether you like Champagne or not this bar is well worth a visit, it really is a bar with a difference and although you can buy your Dom Perignon or Krug of varying kinds in a store but you cannot re-enact the ambiance and the sheer experience of this bar with ease. So as the title states, meet me at St Pancras and you will have a night with a difference!
A secret for you…the bar inside the restaurant is even more glam than The Champagne Bar itself. My boyfriend and I always steal away the the glossy interior first.
