Champagne is very high up on my love list and wouldn’t turn down a bottle as a gift for a special occasion or just as a thanks for having me gift, hint hint people! However with the new rules that have been brought into effect to govern the yield of Champagne will mean that approximately 40% less Champagne will be produced this year!
Decanter have said that “This is an attempt to satisfy the demands of the major houses by not adding further excess to already high stocks, and preserving prices…It remains to be seen whether the price paid for grapes will fall from the high level of 2008, when the average across the appellation reached €5.35 per kilo, up from €5.05/kg in 2007.”
As long as I can still get my beloved Champagne, preferably through gifts, I will happy, however I am hoping that this will not shift the prices up further as I am already using my shoe fund to feed my Champagne addiction!
